The American Society of Media Photographers is the premier trade association for the world's most respected photographers. ASMP is the leader in promoting photographers' rights, providing education in better business practices, producing business publications for photographers, and helping to connect purchasers with professional photographers. Interest in the Online Marketplace:
ASMP works closely with the US Copyright Office, the Library of Congress and is a frequent participant is congressional and university round table discussions and symposia on intellectual property rights issues and business practices within the visual imaging community. ASMP members are very interested in the Online Marketplace as a means to license and sell images directly to users - be they agencies, design studios, publications, corporations or individuals. A free and open Internet allows visual artists the opportunity to distribute their works directly to the marketplace thereby accruing the greatest return for the creator. The preservation of intellectual property rights has been a cornerstone of ASMP recommended practice since our founding in 1944.

Times have changed, the means of distribution has changed and the world market has opened up. Meanwhile, visual artists are still licensing the use of their works and the Online Marketplace is one of the key points of interaction.
